We are pleased to announce our guest speaker Heather Masterson, the President & CEO for Travelers Canada.  In this role, Heather is focused on financial and operational excellence, customer centricity and broker experience, and employee engagement as three key corporate priorities.  In addition, Heather is committed to identifying ways the company can continue to leverage its deep competitive advantages to best serve brokers and customers across the country.

Heather joined Travelers Canada in September 2015 as Chief Operating Officer, bringing her knowledge of the Canadian marketplace and broker community to the company’s operational, service, and distribution strategies.

Before joining Travelers Canada, Heather as the President and CEO of the Totten Insurance Group (TIG).  There she was responsible for providing leadership and direction for Totten Group, and for managing the profitability of the company as well as its partner insurance carriers.

Possessing more than 20 years of insurance experience, Heather has held a number of executive roles over her career.  Prior to Totten, she was an executive at Hub International (the 10th-largest insurance broker worldwide), where she was Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Risk Management and International Client Services.  Heather was also the Vice President of AIG Worldsource – a division she built from zero to $50 million in just seven years.

A graduate of both Dalhousie University and Memorial University, Heather also holds a FCIP in Management from the Insurance Institute.  She is a Senior Vice President of the Insurance Institute of Ontario’s Governing Council, a recipient of the Hub International Chariman’s Award for 2014, and an honouree of the 2013 Business Insurance Women to Watch award.  She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Women’s Brain Health Initiative and is actively involved in The Insurance Supper Club — an executive insurance forum for women.  Previously, she was an active member of the Executive Women in Insurance Networks (EWIN) Board of Directors.

Heather lives in Toronto with her husband and their two daughters.

We are pleased to announce our guest speaker Louis Gagnon.  Mr. Gagnon was appointed President Service & Distribution in December 2013.  In this role, Mr. Gagnon oversees the development and the expansion of belairdirect, BrokerLink as well as international initiatives and ventures while overseeing Intact’s Claims activities.  Before this role, Mr. Gagnon was President and Chief Operating Officer of Intact Financial Corporation for two years.  He was also President of Intact Insurance from 2008 to 2011.  He joined Intact Insurance as Senior Vice-President, Quebec division in January 2007.

After working several years in the banking and consulting business, Mr. Gagnon began his insurance career in 1992.  Prior to joining Intact, Mr. Gagnon headed a successful brokerage, with offices in Quebec and Ontario, and was active within the provincial and national brokers’ associations.  Mr. Gagnon is past President of the Regroupement des cabinets de courtage d’assurance du Quebec (RCCAQ) and Director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC).

Mr. Gagnon earned a B.A. in Economic Science from the Universite de Montreal and an MBA from the University of Ottawa.

We are pleased to announce our guest speaker Michael Shostak, Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer, Economical Insurance.  As SVP and Chief Marketing Officer, Michael is responsible for marketing and corporate communication across all of Economical’s family of insurance brands, including the recently launched Sonnet Insurance Company.

Michael is on a mission, passionately pursuing a new and exciting focus on customers and creating a brand experience that will help put Economical at the forefront of the P&C industry.  Challenging the status-quo is his specialty, and his extensive leadership experience at some of the largest advertising agencies in the world has prepared him well for this endeavour.

Prior to Economical, Michael held senior positions at global advertising agencies such as Arnold Worldwide, Young & Runicam (Y&R) and SapientNitro.

Michael holds an honours Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from York University, and an MBA from the Schulich School of Business.  He admits that it’s the crossover between creativity and business – human behaviour and marketing – that keeps him engaged.

Michael was drawn to Economical because of the commitment to innovation and putting customers first.  Going forward, Michael sees Economical as setting the industry standard in customer experience – connecting with customers and building Economical’s family of brands into something durable, and differentiating.  And he’s happy to lead the way there.

We are pleased to announce our guest speaker Donna Ince, who was appointed Senior Vice President, Personal Insurance in July 2013.  Since joining RSA in 1995, Donna has held increasingly senior roles on the Executive team and across the Canadian business.  Prior to joining the Executive team in 2013, Donna was Vice President, Ontario Region and has held leadership roles in Claims, Personal Insurance, Commercial Insurance and Finance.  Additionally, she led the successful integrations of both GCAN Insurance Company and Canadian Northern Shield (CNS), two of RSA’s most significant acquisitions.  Donna is an active member in the insurance community, most recently the past President of the Governing Council of the Insurance Institute of Ontario.  She is a participating member of the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Ontario Committee and the National Auto Insurance Committee.  In November 2015, Donna was recognized as a “Woman of Influence” by Insurance Business Canada.  She holds a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation and is a Chartered Professional Account (CPA).

The 7th Annual Open House kicks off with free RIBO accredited education seminars followed by a brand-new event, a Political Panel which will lead into the main event.

  • 4:30pm to 5:30 pm – We are pleased to be hosting a political panel with select members of Parliament. This exclusive event will provide attendees with the opportunity to ask MPs questions that matter most to their business and the broker chanel.

The discussion will feature two members from the Standing Committee on Finance – Vice Chair, Ron Liepert and Fracesco Sorbara.

Liepert has vast experience in the political realm. Prior to becoming an MP, Liepert was a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 2004-2012 where he served in various ministerial positions, including as Minister of Finance. 

Sorbara is an economist by trade, who before becoming an MP, worked as a financial analyst in the banking sector in Canada and the United States. Sorbara’s professional background in finance and economics has provided him with extensive expertise in financial materials across a broad range of industry sectors including financial services.
